question!:]

In the book, Halima stands up for herself, and fights for what she believes in, and her father supports her actions against the Arabs. However in the novel we just read, In the Time of the Butterflies, Minerva, Patria, and Mate are advised to not take direct action by participating in the revolution, and are told to fight the government on a lower level. So, do you think that Halima should fight her battle against the Arabs directly, or should she stand back and try to fix the cultural differences on the sidelines?

  1. I think that she should fight at a lower level, because maybe her threat to the arabs will not be seen so greatly to them until it is to late.

  2. I have really no idea the situation in the book, but I would have to say a lower level. Because in the less developed countries, crimes as speaking out against the government could be fatal. Where in the US, we have the freedom of speech so we can do it in public.

  3. comment on JN's. I agree with you. Mainly because I have no idea what's going on. But yes, it is better to play it safe from the sidelines sometimes rather then on the field as can be seen in ITTB with Dede.

  4. Good use of comparing this to ITTB. And yes it looks like you have a general idea.

  6. Also what do you suppose are the pros and cons to these forms of rebellion in your point of view?

  7. I think that the pros are that she is fighting for what she feels is right, and her family supports her. She was brought up to be tough, and not to withstand inequality, so she's doing what she was told to do.
However I think that since the Arabs have so much power in Darfur, that she could seriously get hurt, and endanger the people she loves. She's already beat up a student from a pretty powerful family, and didn't get much punishment(from what I've read so far). So I think that if she keeps on standing up to the more powerful race, she could get severely hurt.
