Okay. So the character that I wish to comment on is the grandmother. She seems to be a real tough cookie, with a lot background. I think that she will be very important when the genocide begins to happen in Darfur. I'm curious about the scars that this people do to themselves. I wonder how important that act is to the people, because it seems that the Grandmother is very aware of the importance of them. Halima seems to be very, very excited to get her scarring done. Grandmother Suhma is literally estranged from her husband. She must have been very strong to leave her husband and comforted world behind. But that leaving i think scarred her a lot, because she never seems to take any thing from anyone. She is a very prided lady.
I'm not totally sure who this is but im pretty sure its Jimmer! I agree with you that Halima's grandmother is pretty tough! She seems to have a hard chip on her shoulder and wants the children to be fighters. This blog however was supposed to focus on the main character who I believe is Halima. Also, I don't know if you have gotten too far in the book, but Halima is terrified by the scarring process and runs away when her grandmother hopes to continue the tradition. Elaborating a little more on Halima i think would really help for your blog! Your thoughts on Grandma are very true though!
Haha, I guess we both thought that the scarring was a little different. I agree with your view on grandma, she seems like a tough one, but I think she's simply trying to keep Halima safe from the harsh world that she'll eventually have to experience. I don't know how far you've gotten in the book, but Halima eventually asks her mother about why Grandma is always so angry, and she tells Halima about why Grandma left her husband. That story really supports your argument that Grandma is a very strong person who has a lot of pride.(comment from last week, just posting it on the right blog)
